The James Christian Collection bears artist James Christian Stegman’s name almost as a disclaimer, as if to say Fair warning: I’m doing my own thing here.
He describes the James Christian Collection as “the antithesis of being told what to do.” It is his opportunity to be an artist first and foremost. In that spirit, James isn’t big on saying what anyone should think or feel about his creations—each person’s interpretation is unique, and that’s a beautiful thing. But with a little prodding, he shared with us what he was thinking when he made the Choice buckle. Not surprisingly, it was fascinating to hear.
The idea for the buckle came from a reflection on difficult times and the choice we have in facing them with positivity or negativity. Its face consists of two mirrored halves divided by a platinum bar: one an untarnished white gold, the other a vintaged and darkened sterling silver. The setting is reversible, so either side may be mounted on top and changed back and forth with ease.
The two halves, light and dark, feature identical diamonds—one blue and one yellow—and gold jester devices set in symmetrical opposition. The jester, or wise fool, is one of James’ favorite motifs. He represents duality, truth hidden in plain sight; he tells us that reality is as we choose to see it, that light and darkness, wise man and fool, these exist together and by contrast to one another. It is our choice to see one over the other.
James, a born optimist, admits that his perspective is always ‘sunny side up’. His first design drafts of the “Choice” buckle did not include a reversible mount. But ultimately he realized that the choice is meaningful even if one knows the outcome. Because it is the light surrounded by darkness that shines the brightest.

We try to only use FedEx for our world wide shipping needs. If you prefer another carrier, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
All items are hand crafted and most pieces are made to order. This process can take between 2-15 business days to create. It changes at different times of the year.
Our belts are also hand crafted in the United States and while we try to keep a large stock, odd sizes and skins can take up to 8 weeks to make.
If you need a rush on your item, this can usually be done at no extra cost to you. Simply call us at 775-379-5969 or email us at info@jwcooper.com so we may accommodate your timeline.

Fast, 2-Business-Day, Next-Day, and Saturday delivery options are available, but please keep in mind that is AFTER the order is made. If you need something for a special date and you are worried about time, please CONTACT US at 775-379-5969 so we can help! Gift cards are e-mailed separately free of charge.
*Belts not in inventory can take anywhere from 3-8 weeks to come in... If this is going to happen to you, we will contact you to see if that is alright or if you want to exchange for a different belt in stock*
Delivery Pricing
- Shipping Pricing is as follows:
- Standard FedEx 2nd Day shipping within the continental US: Free
- Overnight shipping within the continental United States: $60 if under $2,000
- Saturday shipping for shipments sent on a Thursday (2nd day) or Friday (Next Day) that you would like to receive Saturday instead of Monday: $20
- International: Free if order is over $2,000. If under $2,000 the fee is $60
Delivery Timing
Pending order verification and credit approval, orders should arrive as specified above. Please note that the estimated delivery date is an estimate only and is not guaranteed. Your estimated delivery date will be shown during checkout and included in your order confirmation email. Your items may arrive sooner than the estimated delivery date. JW Cooper reserves the right to send packages via other shipping methods based on the shipping destination as long as orders will still arrive within the arrival times outlined on jwcooper.com.
When you choose the 2nd Day option, packages are delivered Monday through Friday 8AM to 8PM. Orders sent by Next-Day shipping methods are delivered Monday through Friday from 8AM to 8PM for residential address deliveries and 8AM - 5PM for commercial business address deliveries. We recommend choosing Fast, 2-Business-Day or Next-Day delivery if you are shipping your package to a business address. You will be asked to provide a telephone number on the shipping page of checkout, which is important in the event the courier needs to arrange a delivery time with you. You will also be asked to provide an email address, to which we will send confirmation that your order was placed.
We do not recommend choosing Saturday delivery if you are placing your order outside of these hours. Saturday delivery is not guaranteed to remote rural areas in the United States.
